Rohrau Castle, an architectural gem, is situated a few miles east of Vienna and
houses one of the most famous private collections in Austria. In 1524 the "Veste Rohrau" became the property of the Harrach family,
who converted it into one of the most beautiful country castles of Austria. Serving as the residence of the Harrach family until 1945,
the castle was vandalized in the early post-war period, but later on restored with loving care.
Since 1970, it has accommodated the Harrach's private gallery, compiled by members of this distinguished family over the past centuries.

Painting Gallery – Museum
The Harrachs, one of the Habsburg Monarchy's outstanding families, included powerful diplomats, Princes of the Church and
a Viceroy of Naples. The most important artists of each age had a hand in embellishing their residences, and their
predilection for the great masters of painting was an ever recurrent feature. Hundreds of pictures came to Austria from
Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. Now they are shown at Rohrau, the family's stately home, with the magnificent furnishings and
treasures of artistic craftsmanship which constitute one of the world's most important private collections assembled during
the past 450 years.
